Founded in 1983, General Die Finishing, Incorporated (GDF) was a custom metal finishing operation providing small batch capabilities to local machine shops in the greater Baltimore area. GDF operated in various locations over the subsequent seventeen years, concentrating the focus of the business on providing high quality finishes with short delivery times. During this time, the business’ customer base grew from local machine shops to major prime aerospace and defense manufacturers including General Dynamics, GE Aviation, Lockheed Martin, and Honeywell.
Sensing the need for large batch capacity and automated processing, GDF formed a sister company, Automated Coatings, Inc. (ACI), in 2000. This included a 600’ state-of-the-art automated powder coat line in a new 24,000 square foot facility. In 2002, the companies merged to complete the transition to a full service coating house. The addition of the automated liquid coating line in 2008 further enhanced ACI’s finishing capabilities. Then, in 2011, ACI expanded to 40,000 square feet to accommodate the installation of a large batch semi-automated chemical processing line.
ACI continually strives to offer the most advanced coating and finishing options available with a direct focus on customer service, competitive pricing, short lead times and a strict adherence to current quality standards. ACI is dedicated to long-term relationships and the pursuit of excellence in the metal finishing industry.
