Founded in 1983, General Die Finishing, Incorporated was a custom metal finishing operation providing finishing for small batch capabilities to local machine shops in the greater Baltimore area. GDF operated in various locations over the subsequent seventeen years, concentrating the focus of the business on providing high quality finishes with short delivery times. During this time, the business’ customer base grew from local machine shops to include major prime vendors such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics to name a few. Sensing the need for large batch capacity, in 2000 Automated Coatings Inc. was formed to supply much-needed automated processing for large batch services in addition to the current capabilities. This included the addition of a 600’ state-of-the-art automated powdercoat line in a new 24,000 square foot facility. In 2002, the companies merged to complete the transition to a full-service coating house, offering complete custom coating. ACI currently offers a wide range of services from part preparation, including media blasting, custom masking and chemical conversion coatings, to Military Specification liquid coating applications, powder coating finishes and part identification capabilites. Automated Coatings now serves a large customer base and has maintained a premier NADCAP certification since 2003. The addition of the automated liquid coating line in 2008, complete with infrared baking capabilities, strengthened the company’s large batch capabilities. ACI has continued to be focused on high quality finishes and fast customer service to this day.
